Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Tywon Cannon, 38, Beloit, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by Chief U.S. District William M. Conley to three years in federal prison, to be served with the possibility of parole, for distribution of heroin in Janesville during August 2010. Cannon pleaded guilty to this charge on March 1, 2011.

Judge Conley also sentenced Cannon to an additional 46 months in federal prison after he found facts warranting the revocation of a term of supervised release which Cannon was serving for a prior federal kidnaping conviction in the Northern District of Illinois. Cannon was on the supervised release when he engaged in the heroin sales, violating the terms of his supervision. Cannon will serve a total term of almost seven years in prison.

During the sentencing, Judge Conley indicated that a lengthy term of imprisonment was necessary due to Cannon’s long history of criminal offenses and his return to criminal activity promptly after being released from prison on the kidnaping charge.

The conviction of Tywon Cannon was the result of an investigation conducted by the Janesville Police Department and Rock County Sheriff’s Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Anderson.
